  2. thanks Brandon youre a lifesaver

  3. Anybody in PDX rebuilding their 722.3 tranny? I sure could use some advice. I got the tranny apart with one piece I can’t identify.

Small add on: the 722.3 (4-speed) transmission was used on the Porsche 928 too as of 1983. The transmission case itself is the same and all the internal parts have MB numbers. The final drive assembly is different and the oil pan too. The transmission sits above the rear axle away from the engine (transaxle design). There is no dipstick to check the ATF, just a reservoir at the transmission. The modified oil pan has no Porsche typical parts number but is not available at your local MB dealer.

  5. thank you kindly – lifesaver or old 300td (1985) saver
    – if u r ever in Ottawa canada let me know and will buy u a beer or two

my trany (722.315) sometimes takes a minute or two before it wants to engage in gear – not sure why
    – it also does not always do this – just say 50% of the time – once it does it drives okay – what is strange is when it acts up and I check the dipstick – seemingly it reads high oil level – and then when it starts working the oil level reads okay

anyhow lots to learn and u have given something to learn

    thanks again

  7. Thank you very much for these.

  8. Thanks, very helpful. Interesting that Porsche used the same tranny. I have the 722.3 in my 1984 M-B 300D. Even stranger, my 1985 CA 300D uses the 722.4 tranny.
